Then caulk around the vent pipe where it enters the ceiling. Additionally consider cutting a larger hole beyond that of the vent hole so you have room to work on the vent and so you can see exactly what you re doing. Your vent hood will have places available for either attic or wall exhaust. This will also help you run an electric cable from the range hood over to the power box.

Go to where the ceiling access hatch is located. Cover the hole that you are not using for exhaust and secure the hood to its final positioning to mark the location of the vent duct. Typically you ll secure the short length of duct to the downward facing exerior hood flange then insert the exterior hood in the hole in the wall from the outside. Install the vent and seal the underside of the vent flange with roofing grade sealant caulk.

Slide the pipe into the hole. Go to where the new fan is located and route the hose to the wall where the old exhaust vent hose exits through the wall. Seal between the top of the vent flange and at the bottom of the roofing shingles as well. Attach the transition duct to the hood and make sure the damper flap operates freely.

Bring the wire connectors flashlight vent hose tape and screwdriver.
